Chris Bell, having left Big Star after the first album '#1 Record', recorded several songs which were ultimately released in this album 14 years after his untimely death in 1978. Despite working as a solo artist with very minimal input from the others from the band, the Big Star sound is generally still intact, and 'I am the Cosmos' can arguably be considered a 'lost' Big Star album.
